about

November 2012.-
With the final Blitzkid tour behind him and the future of his music career in question, TB wasn’t sure what would become of the 8 songs he had in his back pocket. He knew they were special, and he knew it was something he had to do alone. So with nothing but a guitar and a notepad, TB made his way to Clay Neely’s Black Coffee Sound in Williamsburg, MA.

Over the course of a weekend he recorded all 8 songs from top to bottom. A arrogant man would have written the liner notes thusly;
“Drums - Tracy Byrd
Bass - Tracy Byrd
Guitars - Tracy Byrd
Vocals - Tracy Byrd
All songs written and recorded by, you guessed it, Tracy Byrd”

Having spent over 15 years in the wrecking ball that was Blitzkid, it was time for a change. It was time to flex not the bi, but the triceps of his musical taste. No longer was he reaching for his favorite horror movies as a vehicle for his feelings. No this time, he was digging deep and singing in his own voice about his real life. A Gathering of None was born.

What Tracy and Clay made that weekend was powerful, nostalgic, moving and most importantly a brand new start. With the completion of 4 mixes and taking on the title of Purging Empty Promises, Pathways, The Day I Died, Soothsayer and Just Be Still were separated from 4 of their siblings and sent off to be mastered by Matthew Washburn at Ledbelly Sound in Atlanta, GA. Now, 8 years later the octuplets are reunited in this Expanded Edition of Purging Empty Promises. While three of the unreleased songs would go on to be rerecorded by for A Gathering of None's first full length release with the help of fellow Blitzkid alumn and new full time member Chris (mutha eff'in) White on drums, those privy to the magic of those original recordings were left pining for that special something left on the cutting room floor.

Inspired by the constant nagging of his (as of 2016) complete lineup to FINALLY rerelease PEP in its original complete format, Tracy enlisted AGON producer/engineer Justin Osburn to remix and remaster the collection at his studio Dynamic Sound. The song "Crying Wolf" as the sole as of yet completely unreleased track was given particularly special treatment by being remotely rerecorded (thanks covid) with the complete lineup to unexpected results. What you are about to experience is a beautiful, tragic beast of a collection complete with demos, live cuts, original mixes and a whole lot of heart. Join us for this audio guide to our past, present and future.. Be alive.Just be still and know....

Authored by Justin Osburn, reluctantly approved by Tracy Byrd, Kenneth Belcher, Chris (effin) White and Jeff Grunn.

Thank you and enjoy.
Special thanks to: Tim Ivers, Joey Lowe and Tim Kidd for capturing the live audio!
